CUIT provides Internet and Internet2 connectivity for the University, actively researches the latest network technology and participates in national and regional organizations including Internet2 and NYSERNet.

CUIT provides Internet and Internet2 connectivity for the University, actively researches the latest network technology and participates in national and regional organizations including Internet2 and NYSERNet.
CUIT maintains Columbia's commodity Internet connections, which include:
- 1 Gbps connection via Level 3
- 5 Gbps connection via Cogent
- 100 Mbps connection via RCN (for RCN residential cable modem customers)
Columbia's research and education network connections include:
- NYSERNet NYC and statewide regional optical network ("dark fiber")
- 270 Mbps connection to NYSERNet's IP network and from there to Internet2 and National Lambda Rail (NLR) packet net
- 1 Gbps connection to the US Large Hadron Collider Network (USLHCNET) providing connectivity to CERN
- Potential for much higher bandwidth and advanced networking connectivity as needed for specific research needs such as dedicated "waves" or "lambdas" and international dynamic circuit networks
